Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

The staff in Year 2 are Miss Lighton, Miss Hought and Mrs Brook.

Our P.E days this term are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children need their P.E kits in school for these days. Earrings need to be removed or tape needs to be provided for children to cover up ear piercings.

Should you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do get in touch via year2@charles-baines.lincs.sch.uk

Homework:

Children take home their clear homework files home on a Friday and they should be returned by the following Wednesday. Each week children will have reading, spellings and a practical maths activity to do. This year, children also have a "theme board" containing different homework activities. Children are free to choose an activity each week and they can take photographs to email in or bring in a physical piece of homework. Homework sent to the email can be printed off in school so please do not worry about printing photographs.

Spellings:

Each week, children have 6/7 spellings to practice, these have been set based on the assessment we did in week one. Children have a coloured card with their spellings on, these should come into school by Wednesday to help children learn them. We have a spelling test on a Friday and children will then be given new spellings on a Friday.

Reading Books:

This year, reading books have changed slightly. If your child is still on RWI, they will bring home their RWI books to practice at home. Some children are no longer on RWI and will bring home an Accelerated Reading book, these are levelled and when they have read the book twice, they will take a short quiz. When they score 80%+ on three quizzes, they will change their level.

Children will also be taking home a reading for pleasure book. These are books that the children choose to read at home for their own enjoyment. It is not expected that children should be able to read these books, they are to be read collaboratively with adults at home to develop a passion and enjoyment of reading. These books have a reading for pleasure label on the front. These will be changed every week on a Friday, if they have been read.

Children's reading at home should be recorded in their reading diary, including their reading for pleasure books. Remember, we have our reading reward raffle at the end of each half term. Where children have read 3 times a week, they will be given a raffle ticket. The winning ticket drawn at the end of the half term gets to choose their own book to take home and keep. We also have reading prizes for 15, 30 and 45 books.
