History Intent
At Charles Baines Primary School, our History curriculum engages and excites children’s curiosity and ensures pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s history, their locality and the history of the wider world. In understanding periods, events and people from the past, our children will gain cultural capital and have a greater appreciation of today’s world and their place within it.
History on a world scale as well as on a personal scale will build awareness of children’s own heritage and enable them to be aspirational about the role they can play in the future. History at Charles Baines is ambitious and motivating. Broad curriculum coverage is ensured through the sequential teaching of core skills and concepts and exciting learning, trips and visitors that give all children an opportunity to explore and question the past. The curriculum is designed to give the children a solid start to their knowledge of History which can continue to be built upon as they move to secondary education and beyond.
