The Gainsborough Charles Baines Community Primary School

Together we achieve

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

The staff in Year 2 are Miss Lighton, Mrs Difuria and Mrs Slyvester.

Our P.E days this term are Wednesday and Fridays. Children need their P.E kits in school for these days. Earrings need to be removed or tape needs to be provided for children to cover up ear piercings.

In year two, we encourage children to be reading at home regularly - three times per week if possible. This should be recorded into reading diaries alongside the date, book title and pages read. Please do include any other reading your child does at home - it is great for the children to share and discuss what books they like to read. Reading books should be in school everyday please to ensure children can quiz and change their books regularly. If children score 80%+ three times, they will move to the next reading level. On our class page you can find the common exception words for year one and two, as well as the reading prompt questions stuck to the inside of children's homework folders.

Should you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do get in touch via year2@charles-baines.lincs.sch.uk

Our Spring Term Theme is 'Magnificent Monarchs'. Take a look at our Knowledge Organiser for this term, alongside our key vocabulary.

Homework:

Children take home their yellow homework files on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. Each week children will have a short Maths and theme task (often hands-on, arty or practical) and some reading and spellings.

Spelling and Reading Homework:

Each week, children have 6 spellings to practice from either the one, two or three star list. Week numbers will be written on the overview and children will have a copy of their spelling list in the homework folder. If these are misplaced, please do ask for another copy or use the lists below to help.

Year Two SATs

Please find attached some information on the Year Two Statutory Assessments, taking place in May. Please note: nearer the time, there will be parent workshops to attend to inform parents about SATs and how to support children at home.
