The Gainsborough Charles Baines Community Primary School

Together we achieve

Year 5

Our class motto is: If nothing goes right, try going left....

For our Tudors topic, 'Off with her Head', Year 5 visited Gainsborough Old Hall. We spent the day learning about when Henry the Eighth came to visit Sir Thomas Burgh on his trip around the country to show off his new wife, Katherine Howard.

We got to dress up in role and acted out the banquet held in celebration of Henry's visit.

We were interested in the origins of the Tudor Rose and discovered that it was created at the end of the Battle of the Roses, resulting in the merging of the white rose of the House of York and the red rose of the House of Lancaster. In our art lesson we used a variety of materials to recreate the Tudor Rose and were very pleased with the end results!
